Flourishing Scale (FS)
A short 8-item measure of how well you feel your life is going.
About this test
The Flourishing Scale is a brief, well-studied measure of psychological well-being. Its eight statements cover the areas that matter most for a life that feels good: purpose and meaning, supportive relationships, being engaged, contributing to others, feeling competent, self-respect, optimism, and being respected. Higher scores mean more of these psychological strengths. It gives one overall score, not a diagnosis.
What your score means
| Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 8–31 | Low flourishing |
| 32–43 | Moderate flourishing |
| 44–56 | High flourishing |
Frequently asked questions
How is the Flourishing Scale scored?
Add up your answers to all eight items, each from 1 to 7. The total ranges from 8 to 56. A higher score means greater self-perceived well-being.
Is this a test for depression?
No. It measures psychological well-being — how well you feel your life is going — not a disorder. A low score can be a reason to look closer, and a depression screen may help if your mood has been low.
Can I use it for free?
Yes. The authors allow the scale to be used without charge or special permission, as long as they are credited. We show it free and credit the source.
